About IMAM
The International Congress of International Maritime Association of the Mediterranean has nearly 27-year history since the first Congress of the International Maritime Association of East Mediterranean (IMAEM) held in Istanbul in 1978. It is a voluntary organization that was initially established in 1974 by institutions from six countries (Bulgaria, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Yugoslavia and Turkey), and was progressively enlarged to other countries neighbouring the Mediterranean.
Every 3 years, IMAEM Congresses were held in Istanbul (1978), Trieste (1981), Athens (1984), Varna (1987) and Athens (1990).
After the conference in Greece the name of the international congress was changed to International Congress of International Maritime Association of the Mediterranean (IMAM) and his mission has been continued basically the same. IMAM congresses have been held in Varna (1993), Dubrovnik (1995), Istanbul (1997), Ischia (2000), Crete (2002) and Lisbon (2005).
